Five healthy foods that promote weight loss creator of the Fast 800 diet brand, and he has been helping hundreds of thousands of people shed pounds and change their relationship with food. To lose weight, or maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, you don’t need complicated, or expensive recipes or major diet changes. Instead, there are five foods the expert suggests eating for weight loss.
1. Non-starchy vegetables
Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, cucumber, and aubergine are great choices because “they contain a host of vitamins, minerals and important nutrients to help aid digestion”.
Dr Michael added: “With such brilliant health benefits [to non-starchy vegetables] there’s no need to count the (very minimal) calories when adding to your plate – which we encourage with every meal!”
Typically, non-starchy vegetables contain roughly the following per serving of half a cup of cooked, or one cup raw: 25 calories, zero grams of fat, five to six grams of carbohydrate, three grams of fibre and 0.5-two grams of protein.
2. Olive oil
Olive oil is considered a good fat and should be used in “cooking, as a dressing on salad or as a dip”.
Just like any food though, it’s always best to enjoy olive oil in moderation.
Having too much of anything, however beneficial it is, could quickly become unhealthy.
Olive oil, in particular, is relatively high in both fat and calories. So it should only be eaten in small quantities.
3. Full-fat dairy
“It may come as a surprise to those who were told to choose the low-fat option to be healthier, but full-fat dairy like Greek yoghurt or full-fat milk is arguably the healthier option,” Fast 800 said.
Full-fat dairy not only contains more essential fatty acids like omega-3, high levels of protein, Vitamin B-12, and iodine, but full-fat dairy can “control energy levels and improve metabolic rate” which helps weight loss.
4. Nuts and seeds
Nuts such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, and pistachios are among Fast 800’s “top healthy foods for weight loss”.
Chia seeds are said to be among the most nutritious foods on the planet.
They contain 12 grams of carbohydrates per ounce, which is pretty high. But 11 of these grams are fibre which makes them a great low-carb-friendly food – perfect for the keto diet.
Almonds are a good source of monounsaturated fats. Which are said to be a secret ingredient to help burn belly fat. Combined with their high protein and fibre content. Almonds make for a good weight loss food as they “help curb cravings”.
Consuming pistachios at breakfast have been found to help burn belly fat. One pistachio is around three calories (compared to almonds which are roughly 14 calories each, for example).
As some nuts and seeds have high-calorie content, it’s important not to go overboard. Experts recommend a handful or 22 grams of nuts daily.
5. Lean protein
Fish, turkey, chicken and tofu are some examples of lean proteins.
“A diet which is high in lean proteins has many health benefits: it reduces hunger, lowers blood pressure, assists with weight management, improves muscle mass and strength, and lowers the risk of osteoporosis as lean protein is great for bone health,” Fast 800 said.
